"Betrayed" their country for the 'Three Lions', English

Ghana's Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed his willingness to support the inclusion of Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi in the Ghana A national team, the Black Stars. However, he stressed that the final decision lies with the team's technical staff and coach.

His statements come at a time when rumors about changing the national representation of two former England players have increased significantly.

Nketiah, currently part of Crystal Palace, and Hudson-Odoi, who plays for Nottingham Forest, are both of Ghanaian origin and have openly expressed their willingness to wear the Ghanaian shirt.

In an interview with Asempa FM radio, Adams said that representation at the World Cup will not be conditioned by the players' participation in the qualifying phase.

"Every Ghanaian who knows how to play football has the opportunity to be part of the team at the World Cup, if the coach wants it. It doesn't matter whether the player played during the qualifiers or not," he said.

The minister also mentioned other names such as Baba Rahman, emphasizing that the decision on his return will also be in the hands of the coach, rejecting any form of discrimination based on past involvement in the national team.

"I've heard there are discussions about bringing Baba Rahman back. It's the coach who will decide. We won't make any distinctions whether a player played in the qualifiers or not ," Adams said.

He also revealed that he has been active behind the scenes to strengthen the national team, helping with contacts and negotiations, even with players affiliated with opposition political parties.

"This is my responsibility. If they ask for my help, I will be there. I have even helped some of the players who are currently on the team to come. It has nothing to do with political affiliation," he added.

After securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup, thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory over Comoros, with a goal from Mohammed Kudus, Ghana has now dedicated itself to preparations for the major tournament.

The official draw for the 2026 World Cup will be held on December 5, 2025, in Washington, DC, where the Black Stars hope to put their disappointing performance in Qatar behind them and advance past the group stage.
