Described as the hero of Spain, the unexpected happens to Oyarzabal

The unexpected hero of the European final in Germany was Mikel Oyarzabal, who four minutes before the end of regular time sealed the fate of the match and ensured Spain the championship title. However, not everyone in Spain saw his goal as an act of heroism.
Oyarzabal was born in the small town of Elorri, located in the eastern part of the Basque region, which has about 7,000 inhabitants, and where his mother lives to this day.
She is not allowed to leave the house because her son has been branded a traitor in the town, as they do not see Spain as their country.
A placard with the names Merino and Oyarzabal was placed on a building in the city and they were called traitors to the Basque region because they play for the Spanish national team, which is clearly unforgivable for them.
To make matters even weirder, no one took the banner down 24 hours after it was displayed.
" The residents don't want to comment on the graffiti and the banner when you ask them. Not only do they not condemn the message, some even justify it by saying that football players are traitors. There have been only a few exceptions, who do not. Most of them refuse to speak, they don't even want to stop", reports a journalist from the newspaper "OK Diario".
