VIDEO/ Magnificent reception for Messi and his teammates, Argentina plays today for the second time in history with Angola

Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team were given a grand welcome in Luanda, Angola, ahead of a special friendly match that will take place today at 5:00 p.m. Fans rolled out the red carpet for the Argentine star.

The event, organised by the Angolan state, with an estimated budget of 12 million euros, gave locals the chance to see Messi live. On Thursday evening, many stayed up late to watch the 38-year-old as he arrived at his hotel.

The match will be played today at the "11 de Novembro" stadium, which can accommodate almost 50,000 spectators. This stadium is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Angola's independence. Historically, Angola and Argentina have faced each other only once, on May 30, 2006, in Salerno, Italy, before the World Cup in Germany. Argentina won 2-0, with Messi entering the game in the 68th minute.
