Italy, tourists and citizens will see the 'Fontana di Trevi' in Rome

Tourists and citizens will be able to see the Trevi Fountain in Rome from a new perspective, walking on a newly installed bridge that will make it possible to visit the popular Roman attraction during a short maintenance period.

The metal bridge, which will allow people to walk over part of the fountain and approach the facade, will be in place for about two months while the monument undergoes periodic maintenance work.

The Mayor of Rome said that this is a unique opportunity offered to citizens and tourists.

"We wanted to give everyone the opportunity to admire the fountain and above all from a unique perspective. You would never normally be able to see what you can see from this bridge… so it's actually a unique opportunity."

The first part of the works on this much-admired monument has been completed, while it is expected to be fully completed by the end of the year.

Maintenance will include removing dirt and grime, iron oxides and scale from the bottom and cleaning the fountain. The bridge will be limited to 130 people at a time and there will be a counter at the entrance, marking the first step by Rome authorities to limit access to the monument, one of the busiest in the Italian capital.
