Thousands of accounts were blocked by Facebook

The operation included over 60 pages of copy from some of the most prestigious Western newspapers.

Over 1,600 fake Facebook accounts have been blocked by the company "Meta", suspected of spreading Russian propaganda in Germany, Italy, France, Great Britain and Ukraine.

The company announced that it had blocked the largest and most complex Russian-linked network ever identified since the beginning of the occupation of Ukraine.

Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, told The Associated Press that it had identified and disabled the fake news network before it spread to a large audience.

The operation involved over 60 pages of copying from some of the most prestigious Western newspapers, including the British "The Guardian" and the German "Der Spiegel", Albinfo.ch reports.

Meta researchers also identified and disabled a much smaller network of fake news from China, and attempted to spread politically motivated information in the US.

The fake news only appeared to a very limited American audience, with a few posts being seen by only one person. However, the company pointed out that it was the first Beijing network to target Americans with political messages ahead of the midterm elections.
