Sankirtan Das, one of the 3 monks of the Hare Krishna faith who have come to Albania precisely to share their knowledge, showed in the Real People show on Euronews Albania the 4 basic rules that must be respected if you are going to become part of this faith.
"If you want to become part of this faith, you must respect 4 basic rules: To be a vegetarian, not to drink alcohol/cigarettes/coffee/black tea, not to be addicted to betting and not to have sex, except for reasons of reproduction .
The last criterion is the most difficult to apply, which even Sankirtan Das admits
"I live as a monk, I don't have a wife, which means I don't have sex. That's why we don't have as many members as we should have if we were more tolerant especially in the principles of sex. Because for many people it is a bit challenging to follow this path.
It takes a lot of willpower to get it right. It is difficult but we have our methods to cope with it; we associate with other monks, we stay together and this gives us strength. And we have something that we call the greatest taste, so when you get the greatest taste from spiritual practices, you no longer have a taste for something smaller," he said.
