Instagram, which is owned by Meta, is making significant changes to how the platform works and how it recommends content, focusing especially on promoting original content and creating a safer online environment for teens.

Recently, in a post Instagram announced a major change to its algorithms — a "restart from scratch." According to the post, the platform has tested " the possibility for all users - including teenagers - to restore their recommendations. With a few clicks, you can delete recommended content in Explore, Reels and Feed and start over .”

This new feature builds on the tools Instagram already offers to personalize content recommendations. If you need a timeline "cleanup" or are tired of the recommended content, this resume will help adapt the recommendations over time.

You'll also be able to review the accounts you follow and unfollow the ones you no longer want to see, according to the post.

However, Instagram points out that this restart cannot be undone once it's started. The new "restart from scratch" feature will be rolled out globally soon.

The move comes at a time when Meta is facing intense pressure from Congress and a slew of lawsuits from state attorneys general, who accuse the company of exacerbating mental health issues among young people and creating an online environment dependent.

Although the feature is not age-restricted and can help any user who wants to tailor their content, Meta has put emphasis on teenagers as the main beneficiaries of this change.

In the blog, Meta states: “We understand that parents are concerned that their teens may view inappropriate or sensitive content online… In addition to removing content that violates our rules, we take steps to prevent teens from viewing sensitive or ripe. We avoid recommending it and in some cases hide it from teenagers, even if it's shared by someone they follow.”

Recently, Meta introduced a new set of teen protections through the **Teen Accounts** feature, for users under 18 years of age. This type of account is private by default and includes a number of restrictions for minors.

Only users over 16 can change some of these settings with parental permission. Meta hopes this new feature will help teens "shape their Instagram experience, reflecting their interests and passions as they evolve."
