A useful feature is coming to WhatsApp for those who do not like to listen to voice messages or those who have hearing problems and cannot hear them.
It is the transcription of audio messages, which can also be useful in situations where listening to audio is difficult or inconvenient.
The update, currently rolling out globally, will currently only support audio messages in English, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian.
When implementing transcription, WhatsApp ensures user privacy. "Lyrics are processed locally, only on the recipient's device, without sending or receiving data from the Internet, thus ensuring that no one, including Meta, can access the vocal or transcribed content," explained Meta.
As the company explains in the official blog, to activate the feature you will need to enable it in the settings.
Then you will need to select a language from the available ones. To transcribe a single voice message, simply press and hold it and select the “transcribe” option.
The message will then appear in the same chat window as the user.
The company warned that the "transcription not available" message may also appear if the transcription language settings do not match the language of the voice message or when some words are not recognized due to background noise.
