The Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk: Europe is in a pre-war period

There may have been a backlash from Macron's statements about sending troops to Ukraine, but Donald Tusk also issued a dramatic warning: "Europe is now in a new era of pre-war".
"The times of happy calm are over. The post-war era is gone. We live in new times, in the pre-war era. In fact, for some of our brothers it is not even pre-war anymore. It is full-scale war in its most brutal form," he said at the EPP conference in Bucharest.
"It is not our fault that our daily vocabulary includes, once again, words like fighting, bombing, missile attacks, genocide," Donald Tusk said, adding: "Europe wanted to live and develop in a post-war world. But today we must say clearly that we are faced with a simple choice, either we will fight to protect our borders, our territory, our authorities and therefore our citizens and future generations, or we will fall.
There is no objective reason to capitulate to evil. Europe's opportunities, economic, financial, demographic, moral, are greater than the opportunities of those who attack us. It is vital today that Europe believes in its own strength.
Also, when it comes to the framework of our defensive capabilities, we cannot live under illusions. No one will take our place in this fight for our security and our future. We ourselves are the best guarantors of our security and unity.
As you well know, the only person you can rely on is yourself. Europeans will be united when they see clearly that the Union is really our Europe, a safe and good home for people."
