BBC: This year, holidays in Albania! The 9 most interesting European

Albania has been named one of the 9 European destinations not to be missed in summer 2025. The British media BBC writes that Albania has long been one of Europe's most underrated destinations, but that is changing rapidly. Thanks to relaxed visa requirements and an expansion of international flight routes, the country is quickly rising on the travel radar. In 2024, Albania welcomed a record 11.7 million international visitors, a growth driven in part by the global surge in interest in lesser-known Mediterranean escapes  – meaning now is the ideal time to see this beautiful country before bookings close, writes the BBC.

The article praises the mix of history, untouched coastline, food and wine. The UNESCO-listed city of Gjirokastra and the beaches of the Albanian Riviera are highlighted. A special opportunity to visit the BBC also cites Berat with its history and vineyards that create a Mediterranean escape that is much sought after by travelers.

New infrastructure projects are making travel easier, while Albania is also investing in luxury accommodations. While popular places like Ksamil are becoming increasingly popular, the stunning landscapes of the Nemuna Mountains in the country's rugged north are also drawing hikers and adventure seekers.

Albania is defined as an unexplored destination and ranks alongside countries such as Greece, France and Italy.
