Sentenced to 24 years in prison in Italy, 57-year-old arrested on charges of cocaine trafficking

A 57-year-old Albanian man sentenced in Italy to 24 years in prison has been arrested by Albanian police in Lushnje.

This is Fatbardh Haxhiu alias Bardhyl Haxhiu, who was arrested as part of the operation codenamed "Operation 42".

The State Police say that the 57-year-old was internationally wanted by Interpol Rome, after the Court of Appeals of Naples, Italy, in 2008 sentenced him to 24 years in prison.

He is accused of the criminal offense of "Criminal organization for the purpose of drug trafficking."

This citizen, in collaboration with other Albanian citizens, trafficked quantities of cocaine ranging from 15 to 130 kg in Caserta, Italy.

The police operation codenamed "Operation 42" is being finalized by the Directorate of the Special Operational Force.

Sentenced by Italian authorities to 24 years in prison as a member of a criminal organization that trafficked narcotics, the 57-year-old was captured in Lushnja.

As a result of the coordination of work and exchange of information with Italian partners, through the homologous structures Interpol Tirana and Interpol Rome, the services of the Special Operational Force Directorate, within the framework of the operation "Operacionalja 42", located in Lushnja, captured and handcuffed, with the aim of extradition to Italy, the citizen:

This citizen, in collaboration with other Albanian citizens, trafficked quantities of cocaine ranging from 15 to 130 kg in Caserta, Italy.

Interpol Tirana is cooperating with counterparts in Rome to finalize the extradition of this citizen to Italy.
