Albania in a state of emergency/ Durrës, Lezha and Kukës flooded! Schools suspended and evacuation of families begins

The heavy rainfall that has been hitting the country since yesterday evening has caused flooding in several cities.
Durrës remains the city most affected by bad weather. In the coastal city there are areas where the water level reaches up to 50 cm. The most problematic situation is in Spitallë, Nishtulla and the former Kënetë (New Durrës). The roads remain almost impassable in many neighborhoods of the city and abandoned.
Classes have been suspended in most schools in Durrës due to the situation created by heavy rain and road blockages. According to the Durrës Local Education Office, parents and teachers have been notified to avoid movement until the situation calms down.
Currently, 8 families are being evacuated due to flooding of their homes, 3 of which are from Shijak. They will be accommodated at the Ministry of Interior's Convalescent Home, where 3 families have been sheltered so far.
A serious situation is also occurring on the Durrës-Tirana highway, where several vehicles have been turned off and are causing problems due to the high presence of water in some segments of this important road axis.
Even in Tirana, heavy rainfall and the flooding of roads have led to heavy traffic.
The Lezha region continues to be affected by heavy rainfall, with 96 mm of rain falling in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Gjadër Military Meteorological Station. The situation has caused the Drin and Mat river levels to rise, as well as flooding of lands and yards in some areas.
In Kukës, where the flood waters have flooded several road segments. Several national axes also remain problematic, specifically the roads Kukës–Shishtavec, Kukës–Bushtricë, Kukës–Qafë Mali, Kukës–Krumë–Kam–Tropojë, Tropojë–Qafë Morinë, Bajram Curri–Valbonë, as well as the Tropojë–Fierzë–Qafë Mali axis, where there is water presence and partial damage to the road.
Meanwhile, many rural roads in the three municipalities of the Kukes Region have been damaged as a result of streams overflowing their banks, temporarily isolating some areas.
High-intensity rainfall has also begun in Fier this morning, accompanied by windstorms, but so far there are no reports of flooding or damage caused by the bad weather.
Due to the increase in flows on the Drin River, controlled discharges have begun from the Koman and Vau i Dejës hydropower plants. Currently, an amount of 700 m³/second is being discharged, in addition to production, while the entire process is being monitored and managed by hydropower plant specialists.
