"Bankers" Scandal/ GJKKO Appeal Lifts Seizure of Ardit Keros'

The Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime has partially accepted Ardit Keros' appeal against the seizure of his bank accounts.

Kero, involved in the file related to the company "Bankers Petroleum", was placed under "house arrest" in August by the Fier Court, following the operation carried out against the company.

With the decision issued this Thursday, the Appeals Court has partially overturned the previous decision to seize several bank accounts in his name and ordered the return of the blocked monetary amounts.

According to the decision, it concerns several accounts in second-tier banks, with balances of 327,060.55 lek, 11,535 euros, 1,653 dollars and 2,043 euros, respectively, which will be returned to the citizen under investigation.

The case relates to the investigation into “Bankers Petroleum”, a company accused of tax evasion and fraudulent schemes in relation to Value Added Tax (VAT). According to the investigations, launched in December 2024 following a referral from the Tax Investigation Directorate, it is suspected that the company has reported losses for a period of approximately 20 years, from 2004 to the end of 2024, avoiding tax obligations and benefiting from unfair VAT refunds in significant amounts.
