Google Maps with AI! Ask Maps and 3D Navigation transform the user experience

Google Maps is entering a new chapter in its history with the full integration of Gemini artificial intelligence, transforming it from a simple navigation tool into an intelligent urban assistant. This is the biggest update to the app in the last decade, aimed at helping users not only find their way, but also choose where to go and what to do during their journey.

The new Ask Maps feature lets users ask questions in natural language and get personalized answers right on the map. For example, you can search for a quiet coffee shop with Wi-Fi to work from or a restaurant along your route.

Gemini AI analyzes complex queries and connects them to Google Maps’ database, including thousands of points of interest, community comments, and user photos. Suggestions are personalized based on the user’s preferences and history, and you can instantly book, save the location, or start navigation right from the map screen.

In addition to intelligent search, Google Maps also introduces immersive 3D navigation. Maps displays buildings, roads, lanes, traffic lights, and crosswalks in a much more realistic visualization, helping users navigate complex intersections or dense cities. Some buildings can be made transparent to show upcoming turns, while the system also suggests parking spaces, reducing moments of uncertainty while driving.

This update marks a paradigm shift: Google Maps is no longer just a map, but an urban assistant that understands users' context and preferences, suggests itineraries and activities, and helps plan trips intelligently.

The new features are initially being rolled out in the US and India for Android and iOS and are expected to gradually come to other countries, including Europe and Albania.
