Erdogan ends the visit, returns to Turkey: War planes on the ground, no longer

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan returns to Turkey as a winner, but leaving Greece on the side of triumph.

This was the result of the historic visit to Athens by the leader of Ankara, during which a new page was opened in the relations between the neighboring and allied countries in NATO.

Speaking to journalists, Erdogan confirmed that together with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, they signed the joint statement to develop friendly relations and solve problems peacefully, without the need for the intervention of third parties. He also addressed the hot issue of frequent provocations in the Aegean, while he did not hesitate to make a comparison between the military powers of each state.

"I can say with conviction that as a country with a population of 85-86 million inhabitants and an area of 780 thousand square kilometers, we have defense expenses that cannot be compared with Greece. Greece spends very different amounts than we do in this area... Regarding the air clashes between Turkey and Greece in the Aegean, we said to close this page and leave it at that. We want to focus on friendship.”
Erdogan further added that Turkey is trying to expand cooperation with Greece in the energy sector, especially in the field of nuclear power plants. For underground resources, it demanded a fairer distribution of them in the region, while signaling that it is paving the way for Russia's gas in the region.
"As you know, we have decided to become a center in the region for the supply of natural gas from Russia and from there to the Balkans and Europe. In this respect, we have an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean mainly affect Turkey and Greece, the most important countries in the region."

Among other things, Erdogan said he invited Mitsotakis for a visit to Turkey. He also reminded the United States to accelerate the delivery of F-16 fighter jets to complete Sweden's NATO membership process.
