The race for the new Pope begins in the betting markets

As Catholic cardinals prepare for the conclave that will elect Pope Francis' successor at the head of the Holy See, some betting markets predict that Pietro Parolin, the current Secretary of State of the Vatican, will be at the head of the Holy See.
The prediction is made by the famous online platform Polymarket, which predicted Donald Trump's victory in last November's presidential election, when traditional polling companies gave his Democratic rival a narrow victory.
Pietro Parolin, a close associate of Pope Francis, is seen as a potential candidate, as a consensual figure between the two dominant currents of the Catholic Church, conservatives and progressives.
Following him are Luis Antonio Tagle, the Filipino who could become the first pope from Southeast Asia, the Italian Matteo Zuppi who, like Pietro Parolin, could return the papacy to Italy after half a century, and Peter Turkson, the Ghanaian who could be the first black pope in history.
The platform operates on the principle of scholarships, where the percentage of winnings increases in proportion to the number of participants who correctly predict the victory or defeat of a candidate.
