Fires also spread in the forests of Mexico, at least four dead

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador told reporters Wednesday that a wave of fires in Mexico has claimed at least four lives.

The president said the reported deaths all come from the state of Mexico, the most populous of the country that surrounds the capital. He also said that there are currently 116 forest fires burning across the country.

About 400 fires have been documented in Mexico as of March 15, burning a total of more than 13,000 hectares, with some of the fires reported as far south as Chiapas state, bordering Guatemala. According to official data, the causes include both intentionally set fires and those caused by agricultural activities.
