Pikachu went viral in Turkey on Thursday night, as the popular Pokémon character appeared at demonstrations against the arrest and detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. According to Turkish media, “Pikachu” took part in a student demonstration outside Antalya University.
According to the same sources, students gathered early in the city's Cumhuriyet Square and headed to Akdeniz University.
They decided to hold a protest there, but the police did not react. A CHP delegation was also present at the scene, but left shortly after 11:00 PM after the protesters refused to disperse as requested.
