Gerard Depardieu is released. The famous French actor, who is accused of sexual violence against two women, was arrested this morning.
After being interrogated for several hours at the Paris police station, the 75-year-old actor was released. The actor is facing two accusations, presented by two women who worked with Depardieu on the set, in 2014 and 2021.
In an open letter published last year, he said: "I have never, ever abused a woman."
A woman involved in the 2021 incident claims the assault took place on the set of the film The Green Shutters, which was released the following year.
Her lawyer told BFMTV that his client "was passing through a corridor, where Mr. Depardieu was sitting. He grabbed her, put her between his legs and touched her body and chest. She felt completely helpless, unable to escape this attack."
In 2020, the actor was accused of raping actress Charlotte Arnould when she was 22 in 2018. The case remained open.
Another charge was brought by actress Hélène Darras, but was dismissed by prosecutors for exceeding the statute of limitations.
Depardieu has also been accused of sexual assault by many other women. He has denied the accusations and claims that every relationship he had was consensual.
Depardieu, nominated for "Oscar", is a well-known actor in French and international cinema, with more than 200 films.
