More trips abroad than tourists coming in/ Albania faces negative balance of movements in the first three months of 2025

In the first three months of this year, Albania is facing a new dynamic of population movement, with more Albanians leaving the territory than foreigners entering the country.

According to data published by INSTAT, during the period January-March 2025, 1.6 million foreign citizens entered Albanian territory, while 1.8 million Albanian citizens left. This means that the balance of movements is negative, with over 257 thousand more people leaving the country than entering.

For the month of March 2025 alone, the number of foreign citizens who entered Albania was 549 thousand, marking a decrease of 2.7% compared to March last year. Meanwhile, 621,777 Albanians were registered as having left the country, an increase of 2.9% compared to the same period in 2024.

So, in three months, Albania has "lost" over 257 thousand more people than it has "gained", if we also talk in terms of the expenses brought in by tourists.

Despite the fact that in three months the number of foreigners entering our country has increased by 5.9%, data shows that March has significantly slowed this figure. These figures also reinforce the trend of emigration, at a time when the arrivals of foreigners, mainly tourists and visitors, have also begun to slow down.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, many Albanians are also vacationing abroad more and more. In recent months, it seems as if this figure is spreading throughout the year.

If we analyze the entries and exits of Albanian and foreign citizens according to the mode of travel, we see that land routes are the most preferred, followed by air travel./ SCAN
