The appeal of the GJKKO left the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, suspected of 4 criminal offenses, in prison. The decision given by judge Engert Pëllumbi accepted the requests of two prosecutors, Altin Dumani and Ols Dado, to leave Veliaj in prison, even after the wiretaps that were made on him in the cell, in the Durrës detention center.
According to officially unconfirmed media sources, the wiretap consists of about 90 pages, where Mayor Erion Veliaj talks to his family members, mainly his brother, Arbër Veliaj, to organize a campaign of attack against the prosecutor and the judge of his case. The wiretaps reveal that an entire campaign has been organized to attack the two men of justice down to family and personal details. The denigrating articles about them go beyond denigrations, as much as the attacks distributed in the media near the municipality and some portals, look more like low-level flash mobs than attempts to write something that can be called journalistic.
According to sources, the materials that would be written in defense of Veliaj, the answers that would be given, the positions that would be held, must first be approved by the EDITOR, a name that is still unknown.
But beyond the lack of ethics and the disgusting nature of these articles, the wiretapping of Erion Veliaj confirms something that has long been known: the mayor has power and strong connections with the local media. The latter have turned Veliaj into a purveyor of propaganda and unconfirmed news.
The mayor is a model in his own right in the relationship he has built with the media for a long time now, becoming the official who never gave a single press conference to reporters face to face. Instead, Veliaj has always preferred information control, ready-made tapes from a PR staff of dozens of employees, posting gross lies and “live” inserts for cutting a bush.
There have been many cases when Veliaj has been featured live as the latest news in many media outlets, while he is abroad. None of these media outlets deigned to verify the mayor's location, but only broadcast his ready-made chronicles as obedient employees. Ironically, Veliaj did not forget this mistake, as much as the day of his arrest, when at the moment the agents were arresting him he was live in a garden in the capital.
Of course, vice comes from the soul! Veliaj did not stop his work to control the media in the country even from prison. In the first days he was in the cell, in addition to his bitter statuses and insults towards prosecutor Dado and judge Bani, he made sure to propagate even behind bars, through several interviews on national and local televisions in the country.

Kërkesa për “intervistë” erdhi nga stafi i bashkisë së Tiranës, staf i cili duket se ka harruar se është në funksion të një institucione publik dhe jo të një personi të vetëm si Erion Veliaj. Duke qenë në pamundësi për kronika të gatshme të montuara, Veliaj i duheshin këto intervista për të pastruar disi fytyrën e tij të bërë pis dhe për të krijuar një narrativë të rremë kundër njerëzve të drejtësisë. Dhe sigurisht, mediet që i shërbyen para se të arrestohej, i shërbyen këtë herë edhe në qeli.
Një nga gazetarët e përfolur në përgjime, Mero Baze, nuk e mohoi mbështetjen e tij për kryebashkiakun, madje u shfaq shumë krenar, teksa Veliaj kishte përmendur që i kishin pëlqyer shkrimet e Bazes, një seri shkrimesh ku gazetari sulmon njerëzit e drejtësisë dhe SPAK-un, duke mbrojtur Veliajn.
Pak më i zbutur se Mero Baze ishte Carlo Bollino në shkrimet e tij, por duke bërë gjithmonë avokatinë e Veliajt. Në mediet e drejtuara nga ai gjen plot shkrime në mbrojtje të kryebashkiakut dhe shkrime denigruese e sulme ndaj gjyqtarit e prokurorit të çështjes. Madje aty publikohet edhe një shkrim i Ilir Yzeirit ku gjyqtari Ergert Pëllumbi sulmohet e denigrohet për pamjet e tij fizike. Duket se devizat nga burgu të Erion Veliajt janë zbatuar më së miri, përdorur çdo armë dhe mjet të mundshëm, deri tek pamja fizike.
Nga ana tjetër Grida Duma bëri një lloj shpjegimi për intervistën me Veliajn në emisionin e saj, duke pranuar se kërkesa kishte ardhur nga bashkia, por duke thënë se nuk kanë pasur komunikim drejtpërsëdrejti me Veliajn. Zonja Duma duke u përpjekur të justifikohej, nuk diti të përgjigjet se pse kjo e drejtë nuk iu dha edhe shumë zyrtarëve të tjerë në burg, por vetëm Erion Veliaj!
Zonja Duma duhet të kishte pyetur veten si drejtuese emisioni, edhe pse ka pak kohë në gazetari pasi hoqi dorë nga politike, se pse i duhej dhënë hapësirë një kryebashkiaku që kurrë nuk është përballur me mediet, kurrë nuk ka mbajtur konferenca me gazetarë, por i ka sulmuar ata që e kritikojnë dhe i nxjerrin aferat në mënyrat më të ulta! Pse duhej të tregohej kaq dashamirëse me një kryebashkakik që kurrë nuk e ka respektuar medien, duke qenë qe shpesh Duma flet për etikën, të drejtën dhe standardin që ajo e mban kaq lart!
Ndoshta Zonja Duma me Veliajn ka ndjekur standardin e hapësirës televizive që dha Safet Bajrit, një personi të akuzuar për vrasje, i cili të nesërmen u arrestua nga SPAK po për këtë krim.
Megjithatë, këto intervista, lajme, qëndrime dhe sulme shërbyen për t’i bërë gropën më thellë Veliajt pasi prokurorët i përdorën ato në gjyq kundër tij.
This SPAK wiretap cannot pass without raising several important questions: how was it possible that during the time he was in prison, Veliaj became the de facto editor-in-chief of these media outlets, defining the editorial line they should follow, rejecting any ethics or journalistic norms? Is this a continuation of the relationship he had with television stations as the mayor with the broadcast of ready-made chronicles, construction permits and the Tirana incinerator? And how did his brother, Arbër Veliaj, influence these media outlets with his advertising company, creating a bridge between the mayor and these media outlets? And what about the role of the telephone company "ONE" in relation to the municipality and Arbër Veliaj?
After finishing work on the file they have in their hands against Veliaj, perhaps SPAK should deal with this very file: Erion Veliaj's occult relationship with the media, a relationship that connects almost all other affairs in the municipality of Tirana, from incinerators, construction permits to Ajola Xoxa's "art" affairs.
This relationship has led to a ridiculous situation, where the mayor's exploits are reported as breaking or live news, even when he is taking a breather, while censored news about his affairs constitutes a dangerous approach.
And at this point, the media and journalists themselves, especially the owners of the latter, should ask themselves how long, whether in freedom or in prison, they will allow Erion Veliaj to be their editor-in-chief!/ Alfapress.al
