Oxford researchers publish the study of 6 thousand DNAs: Albanians are autochthonous

The ethnogenesis of Albanians has been part of the debate of many foreign researchers. Over the centuries there have been many speculations, but now these debates can be called closed. A group of several renowned researchers from Greece such as Leonidas-Romanos Davranoglou who works at the University of Oxford, as well as Aris Aristodemou, David Wesolowski and Alexandros Heraclides published a study on the origin of Albanians. In their study, based on over 6,000 DNA tests taken in the Balkans, they claim that Albanians are indigenous to their lands despite large population movements.
"To identify the populations that contributed to the origin of Albanians, we undertook a genomic transect of the Balkans over the last 8,000 years, where we analyzed more than 6,000 previously published ancient genomes using state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools and algorithms that determine the amount. We find that modern Albanians are descended from Western Balkan populations of the Roman era, with additional admixture from groups related to the Slavs. Surprisingly, descent from the Albanian paternal line shows continuity from the Bronze Age Balkan populations, including those known as the Illyrians. Our results provide an unprecedented understanding of the historical and demographic processes that led to the formation of modern Albanians and help to locate the area where the Albanian language developed," the study states.
They further specify that since the genetic data strongly suggest a predominantly local origin for Albanians, their medieval ancestors may have resided in a geographically limited area. They believe that this area is the province of Mati. Then, according to them, we have a larger movement of Albanians that caught the eye of Greek-speaking historians in the 11th century.
"While the search for the origins of the Albanian language will certainly continue, we expect that the current study will shape these debates and provide the necessary framework for broader research into the genetic origins of the ancient and modern inhabitants of Albania," they further say . study authors
