Trapped since September 2, the American explorer is pulled out of one of the deepest caves in Turkey

American citizen Mark Dickey has been successfully extracted from the third deepest cave in Turkey, after being stuck there for a week. More than 150 people are involved in efforts to rescue explorer Dickey after he developed stomach problems in Morka Cave on September 2. The organizers have said that the efforts to extract it have been among the most complicated ever.
The lowest point of the Morka cave, in the southern part, reaches up to 1.3 kilometers deep. According to the Turkish Cave Federation, Dickey was pulled out at midnight local time.
Carl Heitmeyer of the New Jersey Initial Response Team – the group that Dickey leads – confirmed that the explorer was rescued and thanked everyone involved. Dickey was quoted as saying that he believed he would not survive, after his health deteriorated.
Teams from Croatia and Hungary have been involved in the efforts to extract him from the cave. Dickey, originally from New Jersey, is a cave explorer with over 20 years of experience.
