EU chief diplomat: The bloc will increase military aid to Ukraine
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has said the bloc will increase military support for Ukraine after the US Congress passed a cut-off funding bill, cutting aid to Kiev.
In a press conference during a visit to Kiev, Borrell said that in the face of an "existential threat to Europe", the "proposal on the table" showed that the EU wanted to increase military aid to Ukraine.
Borrell gave the positive news for Ukraine at the end of his first personal meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, who was appointed last month.
"Let's see what happens in the US, but for our part, we will continue to support and increase our support," Borrell said, when asked about the vote in Washington.
"Ukrainians are fighting with all their courage and capacity," he said. If the EU wants them to be more successful on the battlefield, "we have to offer them better and bigger weapons."
