Serbian politician: Even the five countries that do not recognize Kosovo stand behind the Ohrid Agreement

Despite the fact that some members of the European Union have not yet recognized Kosovo's independence, the expectations expressed by Ursula von der Leyen during her visit to Pristina and Belgrade, including that Serbia should de facto recognize Kosovo, were announced in name of the entire European Union, Serbian political scientist Dimitrije Millic has assessed, reports the Serbian portal "kosovoonline".
He said that it is nothing unusual, since the countries that do not recognize Kosovo from the EU are also behind the Franco-German proposal.
" When we say de facto recognition, this mainly refers to recognition of documents and recognition of institutions, and "not recognition at the interstate level". After the Ohrid Agreement, there are also countries that do not recognize Kosovo, after all even Josep Borrell, the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy of the EU, comes from Spain, which did not recognize Kosovo, as well as the envoy special for the negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia, Miroslav Lajcak, comes from Slovakia ", claimed Millic.
He said that the solution offered through the Franco-German agreement and the Ohrid annex is actually a product of the agreement of all members of the European Union, including the countries that do not recognize Kosovo's independence.
" This solution that you receive from the EU towards Serbia is a solution that all members stand behind. Of course, to take the steps decided within the EU, consensus is necessary in the Council, which is difficult to achieve. However, this solution that is in the Ohrid Agreement is a solution that can somewhat unite all interests within the EU on this issue. Because, as long as you don't have clear recognition, it can somehow work for countries like Greece. After all, a number of countries that do not recognize Kosovo as an independent state, such as Slovakia or Greece, in a practical sense behave as if it is an independent state in terms of documents or investments in Kosovo. For this reason, the European Union has certain expectations from Serbia", concluded Milliq.
