Why did Queen Elizabeth II not want her hands photographed?

Queen Elizabeth II once told a famous photographer that she "didn't like her hands".
British photographer Rankin, who photographed the Queen ahead of her Golden Jubilee in 2002, said Her Majesty did not want to carry a sword as it meant her hands could be seen.
Speaking on the 'Tea With Twiggy' podcast, Rankin said: 'I really want to take a picture of you holding the sword' and she said, 'I don't like my hands.' I thought: 'this is the best way to hold a sword'."
"Maybe I shouldn't say that I didn't like her hands, but what I liked about her is that she is so smart and always had an answer," he said.
Rankin's famous photograph of the Queen was loved by the royals, with many members of staff at Buckingham Palace saying it was their favourite. "I was overjoyed when they told me that the picture they took of me is one of their favorites - which I think means the Palace's favorite - because she's actually smiling in my picture," Rankin said.
He added that the Queen was 'amazing' in general, even though he only spent 'five minutes' with her. "She was so positive from the moment she walked in," he added.
