Scientists explain the origin of the 'pyramid' discovered in Antarctica (photos)

Geologists at the University of California in the US have denied the existence of pyramids in the Antarctic mountains, saying only that they are 'pyramid-shaped mountains'.
But numerous media reports of pyramidal structures found in the Ellsworth massif are visible from satellite images and scientists must consistently reject them, the media wrote.
According to researchers, the mountain in question was discovered in 1935 and its unusual pyramidal shape was created by erosion: during the melting of glaciers, water fills the cracks, freezes there and widens the cracks. Researchers say that by repeating this process over decades, the rock gradually takes the shape of a pyramid.
But recent satellite images of a pyramid-shaped structure in Antarctica have excited many theorists looking for answers to hidden data or unknown civilizations on the icy continent.
The structure in question is similar in size to the pyramid of Giza in Egypt and the questions that arise is whether it is natural or something more mysterious than that.
According to the Daily Mail network, one of the theorists commented: "How could they have moved the pyramids from Egypt to Antarctica?", while another went further: "This structure belongs to human civilization before the great floods. 10,000 years ago Antarctica was warm.”
Other commentators blamed aliens or the "Illuminati" for covering up history and suggested that other worlds existed before Antarctica became icy.
But geologist Dr. Mitch D'Arcy insisted that the pyramid is actually a mountain. “The pyramid-shaped structures in the Ellsworth Mountains are rocks that appear above the ice sheets. They are made of stone and it is only a coincidence that they have this shape".
"It is not a complicated shape nor a special coincidence, in fact they are called 'nunatak', a rock peak that rises above the ice, and this does not mean that it is built by human hands."
However, independent researchers are not convinced by the claims that the Ellsworth Mountains are natural, although researchers say they are the highest in Antarctica, stretching 350 km long and 48 km wide in the western Ronne Ice Belt of Marie Byrd Land.
They are reported to actually be in territory claimed by Chile and were discovered in 1935 by Lincoln Ellsworth.
A 1960s international treaty signed by the world's most developed countries bans exploration of Antarctica except at designated tourist spots near the tip of South America.
