Gëzim Topçiu, the socialist mayor of Maliq, has reacted to the report filed against him by the DP to SPAK.
Topçiu says that he has not yet read the material submitted by Ivi Kaso to SPAK, but has been introduced to it by his associates.
At the center of the DP's denunciation are three main accusations: electoral asphalt, electoral tenders, and temporary employment in the function of the election campaign. The DP emphasizes that these actions constitute a flagrant violation of the law and the use of public resources for political gain.
However, the mayor of Maliq, in his reaction, emphasizes that investments in villages are not favoritism. According to him, building roads serves both the left and the right.
Regarding the new hires, he adds that they have been suspended by order issued by him as mayor.
Gëzim Topçi's reaction after Ivi Kaso's criminal report to SPAK:
I have not read the material, my colleagues have sent me something, but I have not read it and I am not familiar with the material. From what they have told me, it concerns two moments, about employment during the election period and in the second moment with public investments in the territory, or public procurements.
I want to clarify that with an order issued by me, we have suspended all new hiring, you can verify this at the Municipality institution. The second moment has to do with investments which are investments approved by decision of the Municipality Council with a decision of 2024. These are normal, standard procedures, we have not made any additions in the 4-month election period, so it is a normal job of the municipality.
In my concept, I think that our institutions should work according to an approval that the Municipality Council has made, according to the approval that the Public Procurement Agency makes, which is an institution that also looks at the legal basis. So it seems to me an inappropriate action, but nevertheless the relevant institutions should verify and see what is the violation or abuse that we have made.
It cannot be called favoritism if I invest in all the villages of the municipality. It is a 3-year investment for the years 2025-2026-2027 announced by decision of the Municipality Council, approved by the Prefect's institution, continues with standard procedures. We do not build roads to the left or to the right, we build roads everywhere throughout the municipality. Let our communities see how real we are for this part.
