Traditional Glyco Watermelon

Ways of preparation easily at home

Glikoja is offered to friends upon entering the house and is an indicator of Albanian hospitality.

The most popular glycosides are those of nuts, raisins, berries, apricots, apples, peaches, sweet and sour cherries, oranges and lemons, lemons and mandarins.
AP will show you two ways to prepare watermelon glycoside.

The first method
• 1 kg of watermelon rind
• 2 vanilla sticks
• 2 lemons
• 1 kg of sugar

To get the best watermelon jam, you first need a thick-skinned watermelon, as this jam is made only with the white of the watermelon skin.

After peeling the outer green part of it, cut the white part into 1 centimeter thick pieces. Put the watermelon pieces in the pot and boil for 10 minutes.

Replace the hot water with cold water and boil again for 10 minutes.

Then put the pieces in a pot of cold water and change the water 6-8 times in 24 hours.

For one kilogram of watermelon, you need 1 kilogram of brown sugar, or as desired. Add sugar and water to cover the sugar level in the pot.

Boil until you have a thick sauce, then throw in the pieces of watermelon.

Then add vanilla and 2 squeezed lemons. Boil for another 20 minutes and turn off the heat.

Remove the foam and cover the pot with cheesecloth until it cools. Store in the refrigerator and serve cold

The second method

1 kg of peeled watermelon skins
1 kg of sugar
1/3 spoon of vanilla coffee
1 lemon (juice)

For watermelon skins

2 tablespoons of lime soup
10 glasses of water

After peeling the outer green part of the watermelon, cut the white part of the skin into cubes.

Dissolve 2 spoons of lime in 10 cups of water and pour the diced watermelon into it.

Leave the watermelon in the lime water for 2 hours and then drain and rinse with running water.

Put the watermelon pieces, sugar in a pot and let them boil over a slow fire.

After it starts to thicken, add vanilla, lemon juice, mix well and leave for another 7 minutes on low heat.

Remove from heat and let cool completely.

Place in sterilized jars.
