Two decades together, the Hollywood star talks about his marriage to his wife 46 years younger: "Everyone said..."

Comedian Dick Van Dyke is dismissing criticism of the 46-year age difference between him and wife Arlene Silver, 53. "We get along really well," the 99-year-old actor told People during a Vandy Camp charity event in Malibu. "Everyone said it wouldn't work. We care so much about each other." Van Dyke smiled and recalled their first meeting at the 2006 SAG Awards, when Arlene was working as a makeup artist.
I've never approached a stranger in my life. I've always been scared. But then I was backstage at an awards show, she walked by and I don't know why, I just jumped up and said, "Hi, I'm Dick." Something about her drew me in, and I was right.
After that meeting, Van Dyke hired her as a makeup artist for several projects, but their relationship didn't start right away, but years later. They married in 2012, when he was 86 and she was 40. The actor was previously married to Margie Willett. He has four children from that marriage. He was also in a relationship with actress Michelle Triola Marvin for more than three decades.
The Hollywood legend has recently revealed the secret to his incredible longevity. He is an inspiring example to many, showing that physical activity can significantly contribute to well-being and longevity. In a recent interview on the podcast “Everybody Knows Your Name,” Van Dyke described the fact that he is turning 100 as “crazy.”
