The first 10 Eurovision finalists are selected, here are the contending
The first 10 countries that went to the Eurovision final, one of the biggest song contests in the world, have been selected, after the first semi-final took place in the Swedish city of Malmo.

The countries that booked their place in Saturday's final were Serbia, Portugal, Slovenia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Finland, Cyprus, Croatia, Ireland and Luxembourg.

The disqualified countries were Australia, Azerbaijan, Iceland, Poland and Moldova

Australian duo "Electric Fields" had hoped that their hit "One Milkali", with its lyrics partly in an Aboriginal language, would see them through to the final.

Ireland's Bambie Thug made it to the finals with the song "Doomsday Blue", but was forced to change the script, which was deemed pro-Palestinian.

The next semi-final will take place on Thursday evening, when 10 more countries will be selected for the final from the 16 competitors.

Organized by the European Broadcasting Union, Eurovision has started every year since 1956.

It attracts huge viewership figures, with over 160 million in 2023.

The grand final will take place at Malmo Arena on Saturday evening, starting at 19:00 GMT.
