Drama for the former Real Madrid champion: I got sick from plane travel,

Former Real Madrid and Spanish international striker Fernando Morientes has recently experienced a serious health problem, which forced him to spend five days in hospital.

In an interview with "Marca", he revealed that he had suffered a thrombosis, perhaps as a result of the numerous trips and accumulated stress.

"I spent five days in the hospital. It was a great fear, I thought about death," said the former footballer, clearly shocked by what happened to him.

Morientes explained that frequent movements for professional and personal reasons may have contributed to the appearance of the problem, emphasizing the importance of listening to the body's signals.

"I wasn't feeling well after many trips. During one of them, I started to feel pain in my chest, a sharp stinging sensation below my sternum. I thought it was something gastric and didn't want to go to the hospital. However, at night I felt something strange and went to the doctor immediately."

Doctors first checked his heart, finding nothing, until they discovered fluid in his pleura (the area around his lungs). The final diagnosis? Pulmonary embolism, a blood clot that initially formed in his knee, due to long periods of time on planes and in cars, and then traveled to his lungs.

"My blood thickened during the plane ride, clotted and went to my lungs. I spent five days in the hospital, risking death. It is very important for anyone who travels several times a week to be aware of these risks."

"It's a good idea to always carry heparin with you and only travel if it's really necessary. Otherwise, I advise making more conscious decisions and not always traveling like I do."
