Gattuso to bid farewell to Hajduk: The match against Rijeka could be his last

Italian coach Gennaro Gattuso is set to take charge of Hajduk Split's final home game against HNK Rijeka this weekend, despite still having one year left on his contract with the Croatian club. Gattuso has decided to leave at the end of the season, despite the match being crucial for the title, as Rijeka currently lead the standings by one point over Dinamo Zagreb with just two weeks left in the season.
At the press conference, the 46-year-old coach stated:
"This will probably be my last match at the 'Poljud' stadium. I still have one year left on my contract, but we are working on my departure at the end of the season. As for a compensation for leaving, I will not accept it. I do not deserve it. I will only take what is rightfully mine, because for me money has never been important."
Gattuso also spoke about the tense atmosphere that has accompanied the team in recent weeks:
"The fans are angry. The police have been monitoring us for a few days after protests were announced. But I was touched by their passion. Hajduk here is more than football, it's a lifestyle. I feel the pride they have for the club, and I'm really happy to have had the opportunity to lead such an important team. I understand their disappointment, we were very close to the dream and I can imagine how they feel. They deserve more, and I hope to greet them with a victory at 'Poljud'."
If this is indeed Gattuso's last match with Hajduk, it promises to be an evening filled with emotions and of great importance for the fate of the Croatian championship.
