5th anniversary of SPAK, Dumani: Our mission is not to punish, but to enforce

The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, during his speech, said that the Special Prosecutor's Office has shown that corruption is challenged. Among other things, he said that SPAK's mission is not to punish, but to enforce the law.

" Five years ago, Albanian society decided to confidently take the decisive step in the fight against corruption and organized crime. The Special Prosecutor's Office was created to show that everyone is equal before the law and no one can be privileged by it.

SPAK has seized and confiscated over 182 million euros of assets, secured through illegal means. Justice knows no sides; there are no untouchables if the laws of this country are broken. 61 senior officials were prosecuted for corruption, of which 70% were sent to trial. As for organized crime, 955 people were prosecuted, of which 55% were sent to trial. In the field of terrorism, 29 people were prosecuted, of which 100% were sent to trial. In these five years, we have punished high officials of all levels and have shown that corruption is challenged, organized crime is brought before responsibility, and no one is above the law. We are proud of our contribution to facilitating Albania's integration into the European family, while maintaining European law enforcement standards. Our mission does not end with the next file. We are here to guarantee a strong justice system, where the law is enforced and is not a privilege for some and suffering for others.

I express gratitude to our international partners, in particular the United States and the European Union, who stand side by side with us, enabling the expansion of cooperation and the increase of the exchange of information for our joint investigations. Corruption and crime cannot disappear overnight. But in the face of every threat and difficulty, we stand united, with unwavering professional and personal integrity. We have sworn to serve the country, Albanian justice and Albanian citizens. Our common aspiration is to have a strong justice system that serves everyone equally. If anyone thinks that justice is one-sided, they are wrong. We act based on the law and respecting human rights. In these five years we have learned that our path is challenging, but it is also a vital task for the future of generations to come.

Our thanks go not only to the prosecutors, investigators and international partners, but especially to our family members, who have endured our absence and supported us despite the challenges. The success of SPAK would have no meaning without this support ," said Dumani.
