What happened to Wizz Air? Some direct lines from Tirana are suddenly cancelled

The low cost airline Wizz Air, some time ago announced the introduction of several new lines from Tirana to some of the most coveted destinations in Europe.

However, without putting them into operation, as they were planned for the beginning of 2024, he has canceled some lines.

Tirana-Valencia, Tirana-Malta, Tirana-Chania and Tirana-Palermo will no longer be on the list of Albanians who want to go to these countries with direct lines.

The launch of direct flights to these destinations was launched with great fanfare only 3 months ago, precisely at the beginning of June. According to the announcement at the time, Wizz Air would launch 10 new routes from Tirana.

But suddenly the company removed these lines from its system not accepting ticket bookings. Wizz Air announced the end of its operations at Kukes airport. While now, it is cutting the anticipated lines that would be added by Rinas.

Wizz Air is looking to cut capacity by 10% across its network due to a global issue with engines manufactured by Pratt & Whitney. The low-cost carrier says it is working to minimize the impact on its fleet, but expects many planes to be grounded.

In a statement, the low-cost airline said, “Wizz Air is currently assessing the implications to understand the extent of the impact on its fleet, with initial estimates indicating a potential capacity reduction of 10% for the second half of the year financial 2024".

But it is not known if the competition with Ryanair, which decided to enter the Albanian market strongly, is an influence on this decision.
