"We became famous for tangerines"/ Denaj: We have blocked Greek strawberries and Italian products

Minister of Agriculture Anila Denaj, in an interview with Pranvera Borakajn on Quo Vadis on Vizion Plus, said that today in Albania, checks are carried out every day regarding the quality of food products.
She said that there should be no alert or rejection of all Albanian produce for one or two shipments that may contain more pesticides than allowed.
Denaj said that just two weeks ago, strawberries coming from Greece were blocked, showing that the fight against low-quality products is a regional and European battle, and every country has one.
Borakaj: You talk about successes, achievements, investments, while I think of food with pesticides, farmers' protests. Food safety is an important element for Albanians, what is happening, why is there this alert from the citizens?
Denaj: I will start with the first part of the issue. It is true that at certain moments and last year I was at the Kardhiq bridge where the farmers had problems with the milk collection point, in Korça about the price of potatoes and onions, I was also there where one night with minus one degree in Dibër the entire production was ruined. Being close to the farmers, the work is so big.
Borakaj: What happens to these people who are protected?
Denaj: The lack of a contract makes them exposed. For climate issues they should have insurance. I am preparing a model, similar to the Turkish one, that brings together insurance companies, the government and farmers.
Denaj: No, I don't believe it. Because it's a bit like loans. The financing pillar is important for a company. Farms in Albania have a small number of heads, this is not called an enterprise, so we say unite. It will take time for all actors to understand that this is the way. Meanwhile, two things are indisputable that are not justified, the protocol for tracking the product from the seed we are destroying, to be dictated by the ministry. Every farmer cannot buy pesticides under their own hands. ((% buy them in agricultural pharmacies.
Borakaj: Are these only for export or for Albanians?
Denaj: Production must be production that follows protocols for all consumers. If a farmer produces outside the rules, he poisons everyone. What I want to say in very few words is that we cannot put the entire production of tangerines on the cross for 6 tangerine farmers. The fact that 4 shipments came with pesticides above the norm, we blocked the Greek strawberries two weeks ago. So this is a battle of all countries. What the Ministry does is immediate destruction. The destruction is done in cooperation with businesses, then both the companies and the inspectorate at the moment of the violation are before the law. The assessment of food safety should not be exceeded beyond the limit. Albanian production increases in quality and value every month. It increases because our exports increase in numbers, every year by 20%. If it were unsafe production, our exports would not increase. The last thing in this regard is the formalization of the economy. We have the farmer and the collector, if both sign a contract, we are interested in the traceability of the process, it helps us to avoid having products without quality. The analyzes that ISUV does in 2013 were six analyzes accredited by the EU. Even if farmers wanted to, they would go to the private sector, and they would go abroad to do them. Today we have 1909 analyzes that are done in Albania. We call on processors to do analyzes, and we are expanding the regional network. This is also an important element.
Borakaj: Are you saying that citizens should be calm about what is consumed?
Denaj: I would like this conversation to take place with experts, to have a technical approach and when addressing the problems in the chain.
