He killed his wife with a hammer and hid her body, 39-year-old Albanian, Kastriot Cenko, is sentenced to life imprisonment in Athens
The Athens Court has sentenced 39-year-old Albanian Kastriot Cenko to life imprisonment, accused of murdering his 32-year-old wife and the mother of their children, Alba Cenko.
According to the court's decision, the accused, a construction worker, will also serve 2 years and 6 months in prison for possession and use of weapons. He was found guilty of intentional homicide in a state of mental calm, by a majority vote (6-1). One of the members thought that the crime could have been committed in an emotional outburst, but this was not accepted.
The tragic event occurred in November 2024, where the accused hit the woman with a hammer, tied a cable around her neck, and then hid her body in the attic.
For five days, he distracted family and friends by claiming that his wife had gone abroad for work. He then confessed to the murder to the police.
The prosecutor emphasized during the trial that the accused acted with extraordinary calmness of mind, planned to cover up the crime, and showed no remorse. The victim, according to him, was a working woman who had only one goal: to raise her children.
During his defense, the 39-year-old claimed he lost control after the victim told him one of the children was not his and spoke to him sarcastically. He denied any prior planning, saying he acted in a moment of anger.
"I was confused when she told me that one of the children was not mine and she said it ironically. I didn't understand how I got to that point. When I hit her with the hammer, she fell on the bed. I don't know how I got the cable in my hand. For a moment I tried to help her, but there was no turning back ," he testified.
