"Formal and unnecessary act"/ Referendum for Berisha, Kadilli: He remains president for life, but the DP must return to offering hope

Former Democratic Party MP Fatbardh Kadilli, invited to the News24 lunch program, has commented critically on the recent referendum held in the DP, which reconfirmed Sali Berisha as the party leader in the absence of a genuine competition.
Kadilli described this process as a completely formal and unnecessary act, emphasizing that Berisha will remain the “eternal leader” of that party whenever he is present, since the vital membership consists of Berisha supporters. According to him, the only serious thing in this process was that at least a fictitious candidate was not invented to face him.
The former Democratic MP issued strong accusations against the current leadership and MPs of the DP, calling the team around Berisha “politically worthless.” He emphasized that survival within that party now simply requires displays of servility and imitation of the leader.
"Berisha finds it difficult to live in a party with people with different attitudes. He does not expel them, but leaves them in ignorance, making every political instrument impossible for them. To coexist in that party today, you have to compete who loves Berisha the most, who imitates him the most in political gestures, making some of them even ridiculous. This team that exists is worthless politically as long as it does not produce anything, except a service by creating the alibi that the party cannot continue without Berisha. The opposition will not disappear because it is not a person. I do not agree with those who want to justify the servility they show to Berisha, whoever they are," Kadilli declared firmly.
In his analysis, Kadilli also focused on the DP's inability to grow politically in the face of the countless scandals of Edi Rama's government. According to him, this is not just an impasse, but the greatest failure for a politician, which comes from the consumption of Berisha himself and the culture he represents.
"Not being able to gain the trust of the people with so many troubles as Rama's government has, with all these scandals, I can't find a bigger failure than that for a politician. It doesn't come from incompetence, but from the wear and tear of this politician and this political culture," he underlined.
At the end of his speech, Kadilli argued that the opposition's actions with "fire and iron" have failed because the DP is behaving simply as an opponent of the government and not as a new offer that raises hope to replace it.
"The DP is fighting the government, but it is not enough to fight the regime, you have to be an offer to replace it, to be hope for Albanians. As long as it does not inspire trust and hope, it is impossible to overthrow it, no matter how harsh you are in action. It has held endless protests, with fire and iron, it does not work because there are two concepts that must be separated: it is one thing to be an opponent of the government and another to be a candidate to replace the government," concluded Fatbardh Kadilli.
