Red alert in Greece/ "The Painter", a spy for the mafia and Russia, was caught photographing the NATO base

In a case that is considered extremely serious and has raised red alert in Greece's intelligence and security services, Greek media report that a 59-year-old Georgian man who was recruited by the mafia and Russia as a spy has been arrested.
The man posing as a painter had been operating in Greece for months, mainly in the Alexandroupoli area. He was born in Georgia and lived in Alexandroupoli. The 59-year-old was arrested by Greek security services on charges of espionage. He was discovered after months of investigation while photographing and filming military bases and Greek army equipment, acting on behalf of another person, to whom he sent the materials via an encrypted application.
According to information so far, the 59-year-old was arrested red-handed while photographing the transport of NATO equipment. As he claimed during interrogation, he was approached by a person from Eastern Europe, who is active in drug and arms trafficking and is also involved in murder, and by him, he was recruited to serve Russian Intelligence.
The Georgian recruiter asked him to send him photos, videos and information about military equipment. The "recruiter" reportedly promised him money, but the 59-year-old claims he told him he would do everything he could "for Mother Russia," having served in the Soviet army.
"I'm doing it for my country," he confessed, as investigators are monitoring his every call and communication.
Sources from the Greek National Intelligence Service told Protothema that the 59-year-old had been filming and photographing sensitive military areas on the border and in the port of Alexandroupolis for several months.
The 59-year-old is accused of sending the visual material to a person in Lithuania who holds a Greek passport but was also born in a former Soviet country. The same source told Protothema that a second person was also arrested in Lithuania by the relevant services there.
It is recalled that since February 2022, military material has been transported to Alexandroupolis, which in many cases ends up in Ukraine.
Greek investigators are now trying to fully map his activities in order to determine what he photographed and when, but the case is considered extremely serious given the presence of US and NATO forces in the region.
