Businesses in Santorini worried about tourism, number of bookings decreases

Yiannis Constantinou owns a hotel on the Greek island of Santorini. He is preparing to welcome tourists in March, despite a series of earthquakes in the popular tourist destination.
"Bookings have stopped. We don't have serious cancellations, they are what is expected, just like in previous years, but of course the pace of bookings has slowed down. Everyone is waiting to see what happens, both us and those who want to come here."
Constantinou says employees have also left the island and he is looking for new staff. The hotel owner is trying to be optimistic ahead of one of the holiday periods for Greek tourists, Orthodox Easter.
Among the few tourists on Santorini is 19-year-old Aoba Sato from Tokyo. He says he didn't know about the earthquakes when he made his reservation on the island.
His first impression, he said, was that the streets were very quiet and empty, but he was not afraid, arguing that earthquakes in Japan are a not unknown phenomenon.
