Israeli forces kill Palestinian in occupied West Bank

Israeli forces have shot dead a Palestinian north of Ramallah, the Palestinian Health Ministry announced, as Israel escalates violence in the occupied West Bank in parallel with the war in Gaza.
According to the ministry, the victim has been identified as Ammar Hijazi, 34, from Nablus. The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that Hijazi was shot while driving a vehicle.
In another incident, the Israeli army detained a child in the village of Mukhmas, in the central West Bank, according to Wafa.
Attacks by Israeli soldiers and settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank have intensified recently, at a time when Israel is expanding settlements in this territory, which are considered illegal under international law.
The settlers, who on Sunday attacked a Palestinian family and injured a woman near Hebron, have been encouraged by the far-right government and are operating with impunity in Palestinian lands, often with the support of the army, killing and injuring civilians and destroying their property.
Meanwhile, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir this week approved the issuance of firearm permits to Israelis in 18 more settlements in the West Bank, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government continues efforts to expand illegal checkpoints, undermining the prospect of a two-state solution.
