A plane with 15 people on board disappears in northern Colombia, shortly before

Colombian authorities have lost contact with a plane carrying 15 people, Colombia's Transport Ministry announced, along with state-owned airline Satena.

The plane, a Beechcraft 1900D, which was carrying out a domestic flight on behalf of the private company Searca, in partnership with Satena, had departed from Cúcuta, in the north of the country near the border with Venezuela, with destination Ocaña.

According to authorities, contact with air traffic control was lost about 10 minutes before the plane was due to arrive at its destination.

Satena announced that the aircraft, which was operating flight NSE 8849, took off at around 11:42 (local time), with an estimated arrival time of 12:05, while the last contact with the control tower was recorded at 11:54.

Authorities have initiated procedures to locate the aircraft and investigations are continuing to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
