Israel on fire, fire is getting out of control, international help is requested

Israel is facing one of the most devastating wildfires in its history, after a fire that broke out Wednesday morning near Mesilat Zion, outside Jerusalem, spiraled out of control, causing mass evacuations, traffic disruptions, injuries and international mobilization.

The head of the Jerusalem District Fire Department, Shmulik Friedma, stated: "We are in the middle of an extremely large fire, perhaps the largest ever recorded in the country. We are very far from controlling the situation."

According to him, the fire that started at 9:30 a.m. initially moved west due to winds, but is now moving east again.

Weather forecasts indicate a deterioration in the evening hours, with winds that could reach 90-100 km/h, which creates great concern for the further spread of the fire.

Several injured, including two babies and two pregnant women

Authorities said at least 13 people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and burns. Among them were two babies, one just one month old and the other about six months old, as well as two pregnant women. Ten other injured people received medical treatment at the scene after requiring hospitalization.

Rescue teams were also called in to evacuate vulnerable patients and the elderly who could not move on their own, using ambulances and mobile intensive care units.

Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has already contacted his counterparts from the United Kingdom, France, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Spain, Argentina, North Macedonia and Azerbaijan, while the Foreign Ministry has officially approached Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, Italy and Bulgaria to send aerial firefighting equipment.

According to a joint announcement from the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of National Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, international firefighting teams are expected to operate from Thursday, as nighttime flight restrictions make it impossible for firefighting aircraft to operate.

The Palestinian Authority has also offered assistance, but Israel has not yet responded.

Currently, aircraft from the Israeli Elad Firefighting Air Squadron, police helicopters, and Air Force units are on immediate alert.

At the same time, the Shin Bet internal security service has taken over part of the investigation into the causes of the fire, as there are suspicions that some of the fronts may be due to deliberate arson.
