Croatian Prime Minister: Serbia is on the brink of civil war
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic has said that Serbia is on the brink of civil war. During a panel discussion of leaders at the Bled Strategic Forum, while speaking about the political situation in the Western Balkans and the challenges accompanying the European Union enlargement process, he also said that Serbia is on the brink of civil war.
"These ongoing protests have been going on practically for more than two years, which is still an unusual situation. That's why I said it more for the audience that doesn't follow all the details, don't think that people from the West follow the details as we know them, so let's give them a little idea of how costly it all really looks, and especially how it has looked in recent months. Don't think that I am supporting such a scenario, because I am describing it coldly," Plenkovic declared.
Protests have been going on in Serbia for months, with the main demand being to determine responsibility for the deaths of 16 people from the collapse of a concrete shelter at the Novi Sad railway station.
Students who have been protesting en masse consider new elections inevitable, as they say the current government has done nothing regarding responsibility for the tragedy in Novi Sad.
