Over 5,000 soldiers have been injured since the start of the Israel-Hamas

At least 5,000 Israeli soldiers have been wounded in Gaza since the conflict began on October 7, with more than 2,000 officially recognized by the Ministry of Defense as disabled. This was the toll that an Israeli newspaper reported on Saturday, adding that more than 58% of the wounded suffered serious injuries to their hands and feet, necessitating amputations.

" More than 5,000 wounded soldiers have arrived at hospitals in Israel ," reported the daily Yedioth Ahronoth. " More than 2,000 have been officially recognized by the Ministry of Defense as disabled", added the daily. "We have never experienced anything like this. More than 58 percent of the wounded we receive have serious injuries to their hands and feet, including amputations," Limor Luria, deputy director-general and head of Israel's Defense Ministry's Rehabilitation Department, told the newspaper.

Israel resumed its military offensive against the Gaza Strip on December 1 after ending a week-long humanitarian pause with the Palestinian group Hamas. At least 17,487 Palestinians have been killed and more than 46,480 wounded in intense air and ground attacks on the enclave since October 7 following a cross-border attack by Hamas. According to official figures, the Israeli death toll is 1,200.
