Greek Minister of Defense: Erdogan's visit is a positive step, but we must be ready for any scenario

"The visit of Erdoğan and the High Council of Cooperation in Athens was a step towards the calmness of Greek-Turkish relations. However, we are not naive to expect the removal of problems and the resolution of our dispute "by magic".
This is what the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias declared, in an interview given to the newspaper "To Vima tik Kyriaki".
"We must always be ready for the positive and the negative scenario," he added.
"It is useful to discuss even when it is known that we disagree, as this helps to avoid an "accident". In other words, an action that may not be premeditated, but in the absence of communication channels, it will take on unpredictable proportions", explained Mr. Dendias.
Regarding his meeting with his counterpart Yassar Guler, Dendias referred to their good personal communication, but underlined that "if we want a real change of page in Greek-Turkish relations, we also need to change the attitude of the neighboring country on structural issues, which can potentially cause regression in tension in the future".
Dendias went on to say, "I hope that Turkey, for its part, will continue to contribute to avoiding tensions on the ground."
