An avalanche has hit the Swiss Alps, trapping several people.
A search and rescue mission is underway to find people buried in an avalanche on Mount Eiger in the Swiss Alps, local police say.
The avalanche occurred shortly after noon on Saturday.
The Eiger is a 3,967 m (13,000 ft) peak near the tourist resorts of Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and Wengen.
The north face of the Eiger is famous among climbers and has a reputation as one of the most challenging climbs in the world.
