American climber Alex Honnold has completed one of the most daring urban challenges ever. Without a rope or any other protective measures, he managed to scale the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taiwan, one of the tallest buildings in the world.

Using only his hands, Honnold reached the 508-meter-high peak of the steel, glass, and concrete tower, designed to resemble a bamboo stalk. Every move was entrusted exclusively to the athlete's strength, technique, and absolute concentration.

Honnold is known as the first person to climb the granite rock face El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in California without ropes or safety equipment. The climb was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday but was postponed due to wet weather.

The dangerous challenge was broadcast live on Netflix. Honnold completed the climb in 1 hour and 31 minutes, more than twice as fast as the record of the only other person to have climbed the tower. Frenchman Alain Robert reached the top of Taipei 101—then the tallest building in the world—in four hours, using ropes and harnesses.
