"Prophecy" for the new Pope/ The neighbor told him: You will be the

When Robert Prevost was in first grade, one of his neighbors told him he would be the first American Pope. On Thursday afternoon, that prophecy came true when the 69-year-old cardinal was elected to be the 267th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church.

John Prevost, brother of Pope Leo XIV, in an interview with the Associated Press, excitedly recounted how he learned the news.

“I got a call that white smoke was coming out of the Roma chimney, so I went downstairs, turned on the TV and watched the process unfold. I called my niece to let her know that white smoke was coming out and we watched together the moment when the curtains moved. She started screaming because her uncle and I were in a moment of disbelief that this was not possible, this was so far from what we thought could happen. It was an incredible feeling of pride that swept over me but also a moment where I thought about how he would cope with all this feeling of pride, but also the responsibility that is now on his shoulders.”

The Pope's brother revealed that his family always knew he would become a priest, but it never occurred to them that he would one day be Pope. John Prevost said that his brother Pope Leo XIV will be the successor to Pope Francis.

“Honestly, I want to tell you, I think he will be the second Pope Francis. I think he is very concerned about the plight of the poor, for the oppressed and for people who have no voice. I think he will stay in that spirit. He will be neither too big nor too right. He will be more or less in the middle.”

The brother of Pope Leo XIV revealed that the Pope is the youngest of three brothers and that he had always shown care for his family by communicating every day not only with his brothers but also with his grandchildren. John said that in his free time he and the new Pope played electronic games every day together.
