The US will move a squadron of fighter jets to the Middle East to bolster its military presence in the region, the Pentagon said.
" The US Department of Defense continues to take steps to mitigate the possibility of regional escalation by Iran or Iran's partners and proxies," Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh said.

Austin had ordered "adjustments to the US military posture" to improve force protection, increase support for Israel's defense and ensure the US was prepared to respond to various situations.
In addition to deploying an additional fighter squadron, Austin has also ordered additional ballistic missile defense-capable cruisers and destroyers to the U.S. European Command and U.S. Central Command regions.
Tensions in the region have risen following the assassination of top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut and Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
Senior US officials have downplayed the risks of an escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, saying an escalation is neither inevitable nor imminent.
